Xenosaga flyers and more Xenogears?

I already added these to the collection page but thought I would
do a short post as well just to add something Xeno related, hehe.

First up this very tiny Promo stand for the Episode II Complete Guide,
thanks to shipping, import charges etc. I probably paid a silly price
for such a small item but oh well, I was just happy to get something new!

Next we have a set of Japanese promo flyers for Episode II, III, Freaks and the
DS game! I did have the Episode III one already and maybe freaks too but the
DS one is very nice to get! I don’t think there was one for Episode I so
the set should be complete. All of them in the same size as the normal
inserts but with text and pictures on the inside.
(I have duplicates to sell for all but the DS one)

This might look like old news but actually this is a reprint from 2020!
I was quite surprised to see it and the same price chaos as with Perfect Works
has ensued, original prints selling cheap and new prints selling high when
people don’t know the difference…

And speaking of new Xenogears items it seem like we will get some more
all the way into 2021! SquareEnix has put up a set of 4 model kit Gears for
preorder! I would rather have another built and painted figure myself but
this is still very cool!

The questionable PS2 RPGs

I said that I would try to save up some money after finishing the PS1
collection but instead my account shows a zero and here we have 15 more games, haha!

As the title says I decided to add a few more games that I either
missed completely or didn’t define as RPGs when I collected PS2 games
a few years ago.

Knights of the Temple II is the Italian version because it is quite hard
to find the UK version but at least the game itself is in English,
Drakan is the Nordic edition since it was just easier and cheaper to
get over here.

Not too much else to say, I have already added them all to my playlist
and even beaten Eternal Quest and Genji already!

It feels good to have these and call the PS2 collection complete… again!

The PS1 collection is complete!

Every RPG fans dream, a full set of every RPG released in English for PS1
is finally mine!

Well, the dream of SFC and PS2 was stronger for me but this is still
very amazing, I know I’m far from the first to complete this set but
I am very happy to have done it at last.

It has been almost three years of active collecting I believe and about
18 passive, hehe. The very first PS1 game I bought and the reason I got
the console at all was the greatest hits version of Chrono Cross, I still
have that but of course, no greatest hits or platinum allowed in
the collection!

The last game to enter the collection was… Saga Frontier 2, I used to
own it years ago but didn’t realize I had sold it until I was in the middle
of taking these photos, haha! Luckily a friend could get me a copy fast
and we can finally bask in the glory of them all.

As with the PS2 collection it is a mix of PAL and NTSC for the same reasons,
some only saw a release in PAL, some are cheaper for me to get that way,
some look better and some hold sentimental value so it’s going to be mixed
either way. I might switch some more to NTSC if I see a good deal but
for now I am very happy with the collection.

You can always spend time upgrading the condition of some titles but overall
they are all in very good shape, a few need new plastic cases
(less than 10 of them), Alundra is missing the manual (but not map) and
Tales of Destiny sadly needs new inlays.

I don’t want to mention what this collection costed in the end,
a terrible time to buy and import these at the moment, getting them all
on release would have costed me less… Oh well, I regret nothing!

As you might see I included a few questionable games like Harvest Moon and
a few that might be more Action than RPG games but feel free to tell me if
you think I should add something more, there are no complete or
absolute RPG lists or collections out there, there will always be a debate
what even defines the genre after all.

Lastly, thanks as usual to everyone who have helped me build the collection
by selling, trading or buying from me!

Out of these 90 games I still have 35 left to beat, the collecting might have
ended but I still have some quality time left with the PS1, hehe.

Overview:

(A few are not in this shelf)

Special:

The other 150 RPGs

First of, you might or might not have noticed that I made the upgrade to
the site, it means more pictures, shorter URL to get here and if there ever
was any ads they should also be gone now!

Today will however just be another boring list, hehe.

As I have said before my master plan was to slow down on the playing side
once I beat 1000 games but anyone who have seen my Instagram knows the
opposite has happened, I’m playing more than ever!!

After returning to some of the favorites that I wanted to replay for years
I realized that my memory of them were nearly perfect and almost none of
them need to move up or down the top list. I also realized that I still
enjoy the feeling of exploring and beating new games just as much,
all I needed was a small break.

Some would just call this a backlog, I will call it the other 150 RPGs, haha.
These are all the translated SFC, PS1 and PS2 games I have left to play.
Most of them are games I never planned on playing and just bought to
complete the collections but I have decided to give them all a chance!
There are some I would call terrible in there and this is not a promise
to actually beat them all but that will be the goal for the next… years.

It’s just how I am I guess, needing a goal like this. I will keep giving
short updates from every game on Instagram like I have recently done and
maybe a longer post here every 10 games or so, we’ll see.

The list may need a few changes but these are more or less the ones I stand
before, I plan to mix it up by never playing the same console twice in a row.

Wish me luck, it will be needed with some of these titles!

A True Xeno Treasure

It is long overdue to reveal this one or even add a post at all.

Anyone who have followed me on Instagram knows that the PS1 collection is
coming along nicely and that I’m playing as much as ever but I have not
spoiled this item.

Actually I have had it about a year already and have still not taken any
good pictures or told anyone about it.

Behold these massive stacks of… papers!

You won’t get any more detailed pictures than this today but as you might
make out these are the final scripts used when recording the
English voices of Xenosaga Episode I

There are two different sets, one belonged to Lia Sargent
(Shion’s voice actor) and the MASTER script belonging to the
voice director himself.

I won’t name any names but all of these were stored at the
voice directors house, sadly he passed away a few years ago but
a lucky thing in this sad tale is that a relative saw the value
in these items and sold them instead of throwing away.

Not only does this include the final scripts with every single line
in the game, it also includes a lot of personal notes, including salaries
and working hours for the actors, some alternate candidates who didn’t get
the roles, emails to and from namco clearing up things in the script etc.

It can only be described as a true Xeno treasure! I will check everything
again sometime and give you some more detailed pictures of none-sensitive
pages but I have not found anything TRULY mindboggling in there, the biggest
surprise to me was that realians still wasn’t called realians in the
final script, it is manually changed in last minute!

I am very very grateful to the one who saved these, it was unfortunate
timing with my move last year and I spent a large part of my budget
to get these but in the end I managed to sell of enough items before
the move to compensate, all well in the end!

The seller actually had a third set, clean without any notes,
I didn’t see a reason to hog that one and it later went to another collector
out there. I suspect that there might exist a few more either at namco
or in the hands of one of the other voice actors but the voice directors set
is of course the most interesting followed by Lia Sargents filled with
notes about pronunciation, mood of the scene etc.

Phew!

Lastly, it seems that I have reached my limit when it comes to this free blog,
I can’t add a single more picture! I should have compressed all those
moving pictures… Either way, I will have to make an upgrade before you get
to see any more pictures and it seems to cost 48Euro (per year), hmm.

T-elos and Instagram

Hello!

It has been two long weeks with a very stubborn cold for me but now
I’m finally feeling better and thought I would make a small update.

First of all I have finally set up my Instagram account, a lot of
collectors show their collections over there so I thought I should join too.
It is quite fast and easy to upload pictures and find others
with similar interests so I can see why it’s popular.

For now I plan to upload one picture from every game I play but expect
to also see some collectibles faster than I can upload them here.
Either way it will not replace this as the number one place to see
my collection considering the limited resolution etc.

https://www.instagram.com/xenocollector/

Next up we have the first Xeno item of the year:

Boom! This is where even I start to question what I’m doing with my money
and the collection. I could probably have waited even longer and gotten
a better price but I have already postponed buying this since
the release (2014) and since I sold a large set of Xeno items at once
the money went straight back into this so basically a trade
(that’s what I tell myself at least, haha).

It might look like dust or scratches in the picture but apparently the
box is very glittery, I did not know that until now, probably because
cameras have a hard time capturing it. Either way a really nice box
that I probably should display at least.

Still a bit torn about these “garage kits” but it is fully licensed and
one of the biggest and most luxurious after all so I guess it’s a must!

A strong start to the Xeno year but like I have promised over and over,
I have a lot of items from last year yet to be revealed!

2020 the year of… PS1 collecting?

Haha, maybe not ideal and not something I would have
guessed I would postpone this far into the future but
I really hope this will be the year when I finally complete
my english PS1 RPG collection.

This is atleast a VERY good start:

These were NOT cheap, but I’m just so happy to have found them both and
without having to import them, not to mention both in top condition!
I look forward to play Ogre Battle someday, not in the mood
at the moment though (I know how long it is)

Thanks to a friend I can also erase these two from the wanted list!
How fitting that I just beat Grandia HD (still just as good today).
King’s Field will need some more cleaning, that sticker residue was
quite stubborn, otherwise a nice and quite rare
Nordic edition of the game.

15 games to go!

Beaten games 2019

It’s that time again!

I’m as excited as ever to see everyone’s lists, this time including all
those decade lists even if they are starting to get a bit tiresome…
Oh well, I will probably do one as well, haha.

But let’s start with this year, what a year, it will always be remembered
as the big moving year but also the year that I finally beat my 1000th game!
Considering all the moving this is a more impressive list than expected.

—NES—

Faxanadu
Wo, some childhood revenge, I really like the world design in this when
you realize that the entire games is inside a giant tree!
One of the few NES RPGs I have beaten.

—SNES—

Lennus II
This game really deserves a proper review, I’m still surprised how much I
liked this odd world. I was kinda prepared from the first game and was
able to look past the strange graphic and setting but was still surprised
how many other unique elements the game have.

La Wares
This game has some serious balancing issues and you can easily get stuck
and probably make your save file useless…

Slayers
Another anime/manga based game, most of the game was standard SNES RPG
but a twist in the later parts actually surprised me and raised
the game a point or two!

Heracles no Eiko 4
Wow! Why have I not played this earlier! This turned out to be a
top tier game, securing a place in top 100 at least!

Villgust
This might very well be THE worst RPG that I have ever played
or at least beaten! Stay away!

Record of Lodoss War
A really nice game with HORRIBLE maze dungeons, a shame.

Ancient Magic: Bazoe! Mahou Sekai
A very straight forward RPG, it moves forward in a quite high tempo,
nothing spectacular but yet another good RPG

Front Mission Gunhazard
Once again a mystery why I haven’t played this earlier,
it’s Square and it’s an interesting mix of RPG/platform/shooter.

Magna Braban
Very short, very standard RPG, I love em all!

Silva Saga 2
Very short, very standard RPG, I love em all!

Shadowrun
Ugh, this was a long time coming revenge, I have tried to play this
so many times without any progress. A few peeks in a guide,
savestates and determination finally saw me trough.
I played the official Swedish version, one of very few we got!

Ranma 1/2
Like Slayers this was also based on manga/anime and also had some
surprising end game stuff. Clearly it’s made for longtime fans either way.

Daikaijyuu Monogatari
Oh man, another surprising top tier game, I see this as the lost cousin
of Lufia. In fact I enjoyed it so much I also beat the sequel!

Daikaijyuu Monogatari 2
This doesn’t even have a fan translation yet but I just had to play it
anyway since the first one was so good.(this was too) Will beat again
if the fan translation ever gets released.

Burning Heroes
Eh!? This is the predecessor to Octopath Traveller, it follows the same
structure, eight characters that barely interact with each other and follow
their own story through the world. It was quite interesting but also gets a
bit tedious since you visit some places eight times…

Heracles no Eiko 3
Not as amazing as part 4 but a good game to say the least!

Chaos Seed
I wrote a long post about this, the 1000th game!
Even if it wasn’t it would still be a game to remember,
such a massive unique game it is.

Super Pang!
I just needed a mindless game like this

—Playstation—

Castlevania Chronicles
I played on “original mode” and it might have been the
hardest game in the series, even medusa gave me problems!

—Switch—

Trials of Mana
To think we finally got an official version! Still filled
with problems but amazing in a lot of ways.
(how is there not a 3-player option)

Seiken Densetsu
This was also overdue to beat, even more and worse menu handling
than Links Awakening but otherwise not bad.

Zelda Link’s Awakening
It fixed the biggest problem of the original, added a few new problems
and also some new nice details, collectables, shortcuts etc.
It doesn’t replace the original but I will return to both of them
more than once again!

Luigis Mansion 3
This was the true sequel I wanted! I’m not a big fan of Nintendo’s
boss design in this or other games but otherwise a perfect game to
end the year on!

—Playstation 4—

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition
Yep, it’s Vesperia. It was a pleasure to return to all
these years later.

A Way Out
Nowhere near Brothers but if you have a friend to play with, do it.

Kingdom Hearts III
Hmm, the pressure was probably too much on this one, some of the worlds
are fantastic and the combat is by far the best in the series but the main
story is sadly lacking and wrapped up far too quickly in the end,
only to give us another cliffhanger and long wait…

Red Dead Redemption 2
I expected a MASSIVE game, beat it on a weekend, haha.
I just cannot grasp how beautiful the world and it’s graphics are,
it’s not the most expensive game ever made for naught.
Also the “big twist” in the story is something I really appreciated

Sekiro
This was by far the biggest disappointment of the year, I was skeptical from
the very first trailer but playing it was just a pain, I beat it,
got the best ending, sold it, I don’t want to hear about it ever again. Ugh.

Unravel 2
Simple, gorgeous, co-op, no reason not to play

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
I did have fun playing this and trying out all the weapons but I would
rather just play Sotn once again, sadly.

Dark Souls Remastered
It was a bigger difference than expected between this and the original
xbox360 version I played a few years ago, a MUCH smoother experience.
Also provokingly easy, this time it took less than 20 hours to do
everything including the DLC that I never played before.

Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3
99 hours later, S rank etc. The ending has made me very upset!!
Seeing characters return from Trails in the Sky, spending hundreds of
hours with some of them and ending on cliffhangers, this might end up as
the second worst wait of my life… I’m already considering just importing
the japanese version of part 4, also the game of the year.
And by now the series as a whole has skyrocketed on the top 1000 list.

Darksiders 3
The worst technical mess I have seen in years! Below that is a quite nice
game with a Metroid/Dark Souls world that I enjoyed exploring.

—PC—

Wizard of Legend
Another random generated game… I had seen everything in the game after
1 hour, beat it after 19 more, NEVER MORE THIS GENRE!

Shrouded in Sanity
This must be the roughest of the rough diamonds, it’s very unlikely anyone will
enjoy this, but I somehow did.

Aggelos
Quite nice platformer, a bit slow maybe.

The Banner Saga
I knew this would be good, and it was but I don’t want to see where the story
goes in the sequels…

The Gardens Between
Pleasant to look at, nothing more, barely a game

Heroes of Hammerwatch
Finally played this, everything I expected, more of the same, just what I
wanted! It is randomly generated BUT in this one case it works well and it
has one of the best and most interesting shortcut systems I have seen to skip
earlier floors. The town is also a really nice and cozy addition.

Count Lucador
A cute little horror game!

Shadows of Adam
If you like the RPGs of old there is no reason not to play this!
It feels like a classic RPG with everything unnecessary cut out.

Blasphemous
Those pixels! A few bugs aside the only thing to complain about in this
“metroidvania” is the fact that exploring and returning to old areas
didn’t feel fun or rewarding enough even if there is much to find.

Venture Kid
A simple but fun Mega man clone, not much to say!

GRIS
More of a game than I expected but in the end the same story and tricks
that I have seen over and over.
Nice to look at of course, should have played on the big screen!

Armortale
Final game of the year, yet another platformer, the selling point being
a quick switch between armors, each with unique abilities.
A good game, I have just played so many of them.

That’s it! 46 beaten this year, 1000+ in total!
As usual I don’t include any “re-beaten” games but I want to mention
that I finally returned and got 112% and all achievements in Hollow Knight,
those who know what that includes know!
Also I beat new game +7 in Dark Souls 3
(the ultimate challenge that game has to offer)

I have no intention of ever going for 2000 or another goal with the
beaten games, I will just stick to new releases that I REALLY think will be
good and keep returning to some of my favorites, from SNES, PS1 and PS2.

Oh and lastly, top 3 2019:

1: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 (by far)
2: Kingdom Hearts III
3: Indivisble (I haven’t beaten it yet but close enough to rank it)

The Move part 7 the final tour!

If you visited yesterday you might already have seen the new page/tab
called The big collection move, if you want to see every picture and the long
road that lead up to the final tour feel free to scroll the day away, haha
(I already sorted out hundreds of pictures from there…)

Anyway, Thanks to everyone who have followed me through this rather
exhausting move, bought items from me or helped in any way!

Let’s enjoy the final results!

The entrance:

I decided to remove the door to the kitchen and put a shelf in the corner
instead, it holds things like box protectors, my tool box and things I
use to clean or package games, nice to have it all easy accessible

Bathroom:

This is the one biggest upgrade of all I would say, all I had hoped
and expected of a new bathroom, so happy to be rid of the old bathtub!

Kitchen:

Shring! I didn’t mind my old kitchen at all aside from the floor
but look at it shine! I miss my old spice rack and
pots and pans carousel but love that they put in even bigger sinks,
soft closing closets and a less noisy fridge.
Also, the LEGO more or less took over… building those castles
with my brother is the most fun I have had in a while!

PLAYroom:

These shelves are much more effective than before, I decided not to
put up any knick-knacks and also used double/quadruple cases for the
games, I still need to print out a few new labels (when I get a printer)

I haven’t decide how to sort/ store the cartridges yet, it’s not a problem finding
a game at the moment but I would like something nicer.

The modern corner (the Switch is above)

I managed to fit them all up there but there is double layers and some can’t
be seen at all like the original SFC box or standard 64 boxes.

I won’t call it a collection but these are my PS4, Switch and PC games

This has been my big plan for years! Sorting out every non-RPG from the
main collection and putting them here. It turned out great!

Better look at my work/play space, it’s “only” a 32 inch screen but since I more or less sit in it when I play I have no intention on getting a bigger.
I will upgrade to 4K some day though.

And this is my new retro setup! I have wanted this for a while now,
a CRT on a lower moveable bench so that you can lie down and play or
move it around and sit in the couch. Everything is connected and also
hooked up to the big speakers of course!

Middle closet has all extra consoles, controllers and accessories, right one has
technology of all kinds, left is a total mess and mix of things for sale
and things to keep at the moment…

I think it turned out amazing, love the green wall color and new floor!
Sadly the Xenoblade paintings didn’t make it and like I said, less knick-knacks.

Bonus LEGO pictures (it’s everywhere):

This shelf might get moved all together later, but for now it holds everything that got left over and didn’t have room anywhere else.

M-tron!

Durandal!

…this isn’t even the only stash, I forgot to take pictures of the last one.

Room of 1000:

The curtains rise! I mean, slide sideways

“it looks like it always have” -my siblings…

Yes, I still kept this retro setup even though I have one in the other room too…

This used to be the Nintendo shelf but after removing every non-RPG not much was left and the Playstation collections will keep growing after all.
the bottom shelves are all SFC Strategy/RPG siblings and will also grow a bit.

The technology and new soundtrack shelf! I have wanted one for years.

This corner shelf is new, a modified ikea shelf to hold bigger limited editions

More or less the same as before, The FF shelf with Squareenix in general below

This was promised, a dedicated Xenogears shelf!
The keychains/pins are just duplicates but I might put the full set on display there soon

The hardest shelf to photograph, the Playstation shelf, at the moment
it only holds PS1 and PS2 games since there is sooo many,
I left space for the missing games since english PS1 games is
what I will keep focusing on next year.
The Nier soundtrack will of course move

A better look at the SFC shelves! The upper layers are mostly the same
as before but the lower are in no particular order at the moment.
Should I sort by color? Title? Quality of the game?

It deserves a much bigger shelf but I am glad Chrono at least got some
space (and time).
I always get a bit emotional seeing that super rare green box and it
has been hidden in a box for years because of that…

Dotu Hacku! There is still space to hide something behind them,
at the moment all Xbox360 games do.

The full set of english PS2 RPGs

This has to be my favorite part of the new setup,
ALL my Tales of games in one place!

Left

Right

Probably the best overview!
If you compare to the old setup, the shelves are about 10 inches lower and
the rightmost shelf is missing about 16 inches in width. BUT I did manage
to cramp it all together a bit and even add some more items,
this time it’s more split into a GEARS, Episode I, Episode II and
Episode III section. That, new paint, and LED lights for the lower
shelves make it a big upgrade rather than a downgrade for me!

Xenogears

Episode I

Episode II

Episode III

I did not plan a Growlanser corner…

Same as before, but with lighting

Same same, still missing YS5 on PS2

Shion as bright as ever!

Suikoden and a total mix

This will be the first shelf to change when I get more items
but for now Valkyrie get to shine a bit

Thank you again, feel free to ask or comment anything, or just
point out the few black sheep that was not in fact RPGs, haha!

The Move part 6 (and a “mini christmas”)

Hello everyone!

I thought that I would give a quick update if anyone is wondering how
things are going over here.

The move itself is finally over (hurray), the last few things finally got
moved back here from my mother’s place this weekend. Overall it went
better than expected. Thanks to some more effective moving methods and my
brother helping out most working days got cut by 5 hours from what I feared.

It was still a pain of course but nothing at all like the last move out luckily.

This will only be the short version, I have however taken a lot of
“behind the scenes” pictures this time, so many I don’t know what to show,
in fact I will probably make an entire section where you can just
view them all later! lots of close-up pictures in strange angles of cords,
corners, half-built shelves etc. all the good stuff, haha.

Anyway, the apartment itself looks quite nice and it is finally starting to look
like a home again, I thought I would go crazy in the beginning when there was
stuff everywhere and you had to move 40 items just to get one in place,
constantly. PHEW.

Thankfully all the worst parts are over and yesterday I even started to put up
some of the games! Big progress!

Before putting up the games I had to take care of this pile however:

All the unopened packages from the last couple of weeks, haha.

I can’t wait to play Trails of Cold Steel III,
that’s my reward once everything is in order…

SFC! I was surprised to see those strategy games sold here in Sweden so I just
had to get them, quite rare both of them. I also can’t believe I didn’t have
a japanese Vagrant Story until now!

XENO! …almost only duplicates but some fantastic ones that should find a
new home soon. That bubble wrap KOS-MOS is however new to the collection,
it’s a re-release of the “extra coating” edition of a version 4 model kit.

Lastly a bunch of double and quadruple CD-cases to make my
“games-I-replay-often-or-plan-to-replay-someday” shelf
more effective, haha

But don’t worry you will get pictures of that
and everything else soon.

Soooon…
